Spirituality, philosophy and science were once fields that were intertwined, but over time they diverged. Thankfully, we are returning to a time when Western medicine is embracing the ancient healing arts. Medical doctors now regularly prescribe alternative therapies and energy medicines to their patients. But what is energy medicine and how does it work?
Renowned energy medicine practitioner, scholar, and founder of the Yinova Center, Dr. Jill Blakeway has herself asked these questions, too. Jill is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and clinical herbalist. The New York Times named her as one of Manhattan’s top acupuncturists. As a practitioner, she is known for her intuitive approach to Chinese medicine and her skills as an energy healer. She’s documented her findings in her well-known book “Energy Medicine: The Science and Mystery of Healing.”
Join me for this exciting episode, where Jill takes us on a journey to better understand, apply, and explain this powerful healing force that lies within us. If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about alternative therapies like acupuncture, herbalism and Qigong, you definitely don’t want to miss this!

4 Old-Fashioned Courtship Rituals We Should Bring Back
Friday Nov 13, 2020
Friday Nov 13, 2020
With the rise of online dating websites and apps, and a more open-minded culture, it’s become harder to form deeper and meaningful connections. The culture enables shallow communication and a “marketplace mentality” that make people feel more like commodities than people.
We can bring morality back to dating by looking to the times when people showed a reverence for the process and courtship was seen as a privilege, not a game.
Not all old-fashioned formal courtship rituals are a good fit for our times, and may seem conservative or dramatic. But if we focus on the basic values they represent and adapt them to our preference, we can add tenderness and authenticity to the process.
In this episode, I share four old-fashioned courtship rituals we all could consider bringing back.

What to Do When Your Hard Work Does Not Pay Off
Friday Nov 06, 2020
Friday Nov 06, 2020
Most of us grew up hearing that hard work is the key to success. While it’s hard to be a success without working hard, it doesn’t guarantee that you’ll accomplish your goals.
Believing that success comes from diligence and effort alone is misleading, and it sets us up for disappointment. There are many other external factors that impact our desired outcomes.
But instead of letting this reality disempower us, we can use it to our advantage. If you find yourself demotivated and drained out because your hard work is not paying off, you’ll find solace and strength in the five tips I’ve outlined in this episode.

Many people believe that the mind and body are two separate entities. When the reality is that they are intimately intertwined. But a lot of people who struggle with stress, weight problems, and health problems are not aware of this.
To teach us more about it, I interviewed an expert in this field, Robert Ferguson. Robert is a nationally recognized certified nutritionist; fitness expert; speaker and author. He’s authored three books on nutrition and fitness, and for more than 20 years Robert has helped thousands lose weight and improve overall their health with the Diet Free Life methodology. He’s worked with Fortune 500 companies as a speaker and consultant, as well as a growing list of celebrities and professional athletes.
In my conversation with Robert, he goes more in depth into how we can eat healthier and develop the right mindset to live happier and more balanced lives. He also addresses issues such as body-image and stress management.

Why We Need to Stop Accent Shaming and Discrimination
Friday Oct 30, 2020
Friday Oct 30, 2020
Accent bias, a term coined for this type of prejudice, targets those who speak a language with a foreign accent. It has become increasingly common as people move around the world in search of opportunity.
Sadly, it is something we’re all prone to doing. Studies have shown that it takes as little as 30 milliseconds of speech for us to instantly form judgements about the speaker’s character, wealth, social status, intelligence, and education.
Whatever side of the accent shaming fence you find yourself on, you’ll benefit from this week's post where I describe various aspects of accents, including how we develop one and why we should stop using it as a reason to discriminate.

Friday Oct 16, 2020

Confidence is attractive. People who are perceived as confident win attention, admiration, and opportunities wherever they go.
That’s why we’re advised to give the appearance of confidence even if we don’t feel that way. But this “fake it till you make it” mantra can only take us so far. After a while, we’ll feel like an imposter and others will pick up on our phony behavior.

Friday Oct 09, 2020
Friday Oct 09, 2020
The desire for our one true love is universal. We crave a bond that can elevate us to heights of ecstasy. Romantic fairy tales offer us a portal to experience these emotions vicariously.
Buying into this picture-perfect take on love, however, can land us in hot water. What seems like harmless escapism influences our expectations of relationships and partners.
Having a healthy skepticism about these stories does not mean we let go of our ideals. We can preserve the magic of love while taking away the illusion of perfection. I describe four ways to balance our expectations of fairy tale love.
